Peace Corps Timeline:
January: Thought:”What is the PeaceCorps? Oh, you get to travel and live in different cultures, I’m in.”
Mid-Jan: Started Application. Wesley comes in to my room, sees what I’m doing, and promptly tells me that I’m an idiot and going to die wherever I go.
Early Feb: Finished Application, got references from my Entrepreneurship teacher (my only A+ in college), Leith (from Friendly’s), Betsy (from Friendly’s), Wesley’s Mom (Mrs. Lewey), and Stephanie’s brother (internship “supervisor”). Thanks all! You’re the best! Wesley shows me a video game where the intro is buildings falling and basically a warzone, and tells me that is going to be me (a person running away from a building that is toppling over).
March 18: Interview in NYC! Twas a grand hour and a half with my recruiter. Talked about lots of isht.
March 22: Nomination Email! Cha-Ching!
Program: Business Advising
Region: Sub Saharan Africa
Tentative Date of Departure: July 2010
Yipee! Legal Clearance!
Medical Packet: All though April.. Sent in on April 22, the day my best friend Jessica passed, may she rest in peace forever until we meet again.
June 2,3: Medical and Dental Clearance, after a lot of ridiculousness including getting my wisdom teeth out!
June 4: Contacted by Placement Office, Please send resume. Sent.
June 10: AHHH MY Close of Invitation date to go to Zambia and be a Rural Aquaculture Promoter/Business Advisor.. My PO informs me that I am going to miss that one and now am re-nominated for the Second week in August.. Business Advising.. same region.
Okay, that’s cool more time, I guess.
June 12: Un-Legally Cleared! They took away my legal clearance ’cause of a ticket in 2008!
June 17: Re-Legally Cleared after I explained that it was in 2008!
June 22: Antsy as ****, emailed PO what’s going on?, 5 mins later, call from 202 number! DC PC! She is going to extend me an invitation to be a Business Advisor in Sub-Saharan Africa leaving early August! No more clues there. Damn. It’s still either Uganda (most probable), Senegal or Namibia (unlikely). Invitation is in the mail! Wes told me today that he’s not going to ever see me again probably, and that he (my best friend) will certainly not be visiting me. I told him that if he goes to Japan instead of seeing me, I will defintely never see him again. Stephanie and my parents are going to be visiting though!
Fantastic.
June 24: Received invite to Uganda in as an Economic Development Volunteer in the Community Health and Economic Development (CHED) program departing 8/9/10!! Woohoo!
June 29: Send my email of acceptance to the Uganda desk.
July 2: Sent out my passport and visas to SATO.
July 6: Sent my Resume and Aspiration Statement to the Uganda country desk.
